SHEN LING
b. 1965, Liaoning, China
Shen Ling graduated from the Afflicted High School to Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1985, and in 1989, she received her bachelor degree from the Oil Painting Department of Central Academy of Fine Arts where she is currently working.
Within extraordinary discussions of painting, Shen Ling relies on unusual painting methods to build an essential, current pictorial reality that also has critical and satirical elements on a psychological-literary- emotional level; her work is similarly directly related to metaphors of lived entities that are experienced, realized, and internalized. Her views on the world are more often expressed as a joyful affirmation of the trivial, heterogenous, and diverse facets possessed by all things in this tangible, miniature reality.
Shen Ling’s recent solo exhibitions include: “Void Flowers, Yearly Portrait”, Tang Contemporary Art, Beijing (China, 2022); “Intensity of Concreteness“, Tang Contemporary Art (Hong Kong SAR, 2019); “Flowers and Birds”, Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (China, 2014); “Fleeting Time – Works by Shen Ling”, He Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen (China, 2011). Group exhibitions include “In Time – Chinese Biennale of Oil Painting”, China Art Museum, Shanghai (China, 2018); “The Era of Portrait - 30 Years of Contemporary Art”, Power Station of Art, Shanghai (China, 2013); “Self-Image: Woman Art in China 1920-2010”, Museum of Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing (China, 2011); “Exhibition of the Works of Shen Ling & Wang Yuping”, Today Art Museum, Beijing (China, 2010).
